Face Them

As he walked alone to school a little boy was troubled by a troop of monkeys. In the beginning, the boy used to be quiet but when the monkeys took the boy for granted they started to trouble him more. One day the boy came running home and he was panting and almost out of breath when his mother asked him, ‘Naren, what happened?’.

The boy then told his mother, ‘Maa a troop of monkeys always come in my way and they try to frighten me’. Bhuvaneshwari Devi said, ‘Naren, from tomorrow, ‘face them’. Pick up a stone and face and they will run away.’

The next day Naren faced them and lo! The monkeys got scared and thus the little boy overcame his fear. The boy was none other than, Narendranath Datta, who later was known as ‘Swami Vivekananda’.
