Chloe and Adam were two best friends. They had been best friends since kindergarten and knew everything about each other. It was a sunny day, and Chloe was getting ready for college when she received a call from one of Adam's classmates, Jacob. When she picked up the call, Jacob said, "Chloe! You need to come to college quickly. A... Adam has fainted." I was in shock and ran to college. When I arrived, everything looked normal. I went to Adam's class and saw him completely fine, talking to his friends. He saw me and said, "Got pranked!" I was angry and told him, "That's not a good prank. I got scared." He apologized, but I didn't agree. But what could I do? Get angry and end this amazing friendship just because of this reason? I couldn't do that, so I forgave him. Then Jacob came over and said, "Oh, it's okay. It was just a prank. Should we all go to a cafe this evening?" Adam and I both agreed. I reached the cafe in the evening, but Adam hadn't arrived yet. Jacob was there. I went and sat down and noticed that Jacob looked nervous. I knew he wanted to tell me something, so I asked him, "Hey, do you want to tell me something?" He said, "Actually, yeah. Chloe, I wanted to tell you that I have liked you for a long time." I was shocked. I had a slight sense that he liked me, but I wasn't sure. I told him, "Umm... Jacob, no. I think of you as my good friend." I could see from his face that he was a little sad and angry. I felt very awkward when Adam finally arrived. We all had a great evening. Then I received a call from my mom who needed some help, so I had to leave early. After a few hours, I called Adam, but he wasn't answering. I felt a little weird but ignored it. The next day in college, I went up to Adam and tried to talk to him, but he continuously ignored me. I kept calling him until he finally said, "Oh, please, Chloe! Jacob told me everything. You liked him and never told me. I never thought you would do this. Don't ever talk to me!" I was astonished. There were many questions going through my mind when it hit me. After I had refused Jacob, he wanted revenge. When I had left, he lied to Adam about everything. I tried to tell this to Adam, but he didn't listen. I went to Jacob and shouted at him for breaking up my and Adam's friendship and lying to him. Just as Adam came, he said, "Shut up, Chloe! You're the one who lied. Don't you dare shout at my best friend." I was devastated. I couldn't handle this day anymore. I ran home, went to my room, and didn't go out for the whole day. The next day, I went to college with a very different personality and mindset. I made new friends, Katie and Maya. I focused on my studies and ignored Adam and Jacob. One day, after college, I went home, and my mom told me that we were shifting. Luckily, I would be in the same school, but the place we were shifting to was Adam's society. I tried to convince her to shift somewhere else, but she didn't listen. On the day of shifting, the first person I saw in that society was Adam. But the worst thing was that I lived right beside him. I was frustrated but got used to it. One day, I saw Jacob fighting with Adam, but I ignored it

. The next day, I was going home, and I was in the elevator when Adam walked in. I thought it would be okay, but as we were going up, suddenly the elevator stopped, and it wouldn't turn on again. I tried shouting for help, but no one was there. My stomach started growling as I was very hungry and was about to faint. Then Adam took out a packet of biscuits, opened it, and passed it to me, not looking at me but saying, "Here, have some." I had no option, so I thanked him and took the biscuits. I felt better now, but the problem was that the elevator still wasn't working. As time passed, we grew more tense. Adam was trying to open the elevator door when suddenly I fainted. He turned back and shouted my name. He took out his water bottle and sprinkled some water on me. I finally woke up. We both sat down, and he said, "I'm sorry for not trusting you. I heard from one of the waitresses what had happened before I came." I wasn't sure what to say but replied, "It's okay, Adam. Jacob liked me, and I said no. Indeed, he got angry. But why were you guys fighting that day?" After I asked that, he was in shock. "I... I know why we are locked here. As I found out that Jacob had lied to me, we were fighting. He is taking revenge on us!" said Adam. It all made sense now. We both felt relieved when finally the elevator started moving again. As it opened, we ran outside and hugged each other. The next day, we went to college, and Jacob was shocked to see us talking again. When we saw him, we approached him, and Adam took Jacob's bag. I took out my water bottle and splashed cold water on him. Everyone laughed, and this time he was ashamed.
