Priyanka always doubted her husband, Rahul. They were married for a couple of years now. Still, she had trust issues. In a day, she called him frequently and asked, where he was and what was he doing etc.,

Recently she observed few changes in his behavior. He left early for the office, didn’t carry lunch box very often, reached home late. Once he reached home, he was always either on the phone talking to someone or messaging frequently. He usually closed his room door while speaking on the phone. So she never heard what was he talking about for so long. She even tried to check his messages but found the password had changed.

For two days he didn't come home at night and gave some vague reasons. She wanted to find out what’s going on. So, one day she followed him for the whole day; Morning he went to the office as usual, and at lunch break, he met a woman in front of his office and took her to the nearby restaurant. After lunch, he went back to the office. In the evening, he again met her, and both went into an apartment and did not return until night.

She felt devastated and wanted to confront. But first, she waited for Rahul to come and confess. But he didn't say anything. She remained silent for two more days. She prepared his favourite food and tried to impress him thinking he’ll feel guilty and would confess. But he never uttered a word about the other women.

Soon it was her birthday, and she expected him to at least spend some time with her, but he went to the office and forgot about her birthday. He didn’t even wish her.

This was her last straw. She decided to catch him red-handed with that women. So, she drove to his office and waited for him near his office. She saw the women waiting for him in her car. She silently watched her, and soon he came out of the office and got inside her car and drove to the apartment.

With all built up frustration, she followed them and waited outside until they got inside the apartment and closed the door. After 5 minutes, she walked to the apartment and banged on the door. Rahul opened the door and was shocked to see her standing in front of him. Before he could say anything, she slapped him hard and started scolding him for betraying her. Soon she noticed a group of people along with the women rushed from the living room to the front room and were puzzled to see her creating a big scene.

She couldn't understand who were they. She looked at Rahul and asked, ‘Who are they? What's going on here?'

He rubbed his checks and removed something from his pocket and placed it on her palms and said, ‘Happy Birthday!’

She looked at her palm and saw it was a key. So she asked, ‘What is this?’

‘This is our new house key. I bought this house recently and wanted to gift you this on your birthday. So, I come here daily, after office to get it ready but still, the work was pending. So, I had to stay over for few days in between to get it completed.’

‘Then, who was that women?’

'She is the house agent who helped me to buy this apartment and also to help me with the labours to finish the last-minute fittings. I had arranged a party tonight here to celebrate your birthday. So, all my friends have come over to help me organise your birthday party.'

Priyanka felt ashamed for suspecting Rahul. She was drowned in shame and couldn't make eye contact with him. Her tears rolled down continuously, and she couldn't utter a word. He walked near her and said, ‘It's ok. I understand. Maybe It's my fault. I forgot that wives are good at sniffing wrong signals. I should have told you about this, but just wanted to surprise you. But why didn't you ask me, If you knew something was wrong?'

‘I’m sorry. Yes, I agree I should have asked you. But I chose to assume things and led myself to believe that you have an affair. I'm really sorry. Please tell me how can I make it up to you?'

‘Just trust me, I love you and only you.’

PS: Many relationships are broken just because they think their spouses are interested in someone else. Whatever we see, is not always the truth. If something is wrong, it is still better to ask than assume.
