Be Careful! Be Smart!

Priya was 12 years old, and she was very kind and helpful to everyone. Every day on the way back home, she saw a beggar who was handicapped and felt sympathy for him and gave some coins. Gradually she started talking to him, and after knowing that he was alone and had no one to take care of him, she felt bad for his condition. Hence, she used to spend some time talking to him every single day sharing about her life and asking about his. She also brought her father's old clothes and gave him as he always wore torn clothes. Some days she even brought food for him.

This went on for few days, and one day in the lunch break, she ran to him to give sweets as it was her birthday and saw him not sitting in his usual place. She looked around for few minutes and found him in a corner standing and talking to some strangers who were sitting inside the black car. She was shocked to see him standing on his feet. She felt terrible that he lied to her and went back to her class immediately. That day while she was walking back home, she ignored him and started walking silently. After few minutes, she noticed a black car following her and soon she speeded up, and the car too followed her. She quickly understood that the beggar has sent them and ran straight to her house.

She soon realised that the beggar knew that she would be alone at this hour in her house and her neighbours were out of town. So, she opened the lock quickly and heard a car stopping near her home. She immediately ran inside and locked the main door. Picked up the landline and called her father. He suggested her to lock herself in her room while he calls the police and reaches home immediately. So, she went straight up to her room and locked her room door. She peeped from her room window and saw a man getting out of the car and running towards her house.

She heard the doorbell ring continuously, and she waited inside her room without making any noise, and after few minutes, she heard the car beeping the horn crazy, and soon the tiers peeled off. She silently sat on the floor and hugged herself tightly. She heard heavy footsteps coming from down the stairs; she panicked because she remembered locking the door. Her tears started rolling down and ran inside the cupboard quickly and closed the door, covered her mouth from her hands and gasped in between, She was too scared to move and refused to come out of the cupboard. Her legs refused to move. They felt paralysed. Soon she heard a heavy banging on her room door. She curled herself and laid quietly. She heard someone calling her name and immediately recognised her father's voice and opened the door.

She saw her parents standing in front of her along with the police. She hugged them and cried heavily apologising for her mistake to give away all her details to the beggar. Her parents consoled her and appreciated her for acting quickly as soon as she noticed the black car. Priya gave the details of the beggar and two strangers whom she saw in the car to the police, and the police caught them in few days.
