With the outbreak of this deadly virus called “Coronavirus”, another disease is also gripping the people which is known as “Coronanxiety”. It is more deadly in the case of the present generation as this is the first such experience of a global pandemic for them. This pandemic which hit us with full force in mid-March is actually pretty symbolic of the effects on mental health that it has caused till now in the mass. The assurance in the beginning that it won’t happen to you, the realization and anxiety that it is pretty close to you, all of these things can also describe how mental health has become an issue for the people. It has capsized people’s lives and stolen away old convictions as it has developed the most common symptoms like anxiety, depression, and fear in jeopardy groups, for example elderly, children, pregnant women, and people in depression are the most affected ones.
Staying in this 21st century people still find it uncomfortable to discuss the topics such as depression and anxiety with their family and relatives because they feel there might be a miscommunication and the generation gap can also become a hurdle between the understanding of how the minds of different people shall react in a diversified manner to the same situation. Mental health is not simply resolved by a one-dimensional solution nor it can go when we have someone to talk with. This pandemic has made people go through the worst stages of their lives like having terrible stress, breakdown and even situation became worse when suicide became a solution for them. The social distancing which also gave rise to emotional distancing became the main reason behind the rise in cases of stress, depression, and suicide in the country in the last five months.
It can be rightly quoted that the mental health of most individuals has taken a hit now due to this pandemic. With this realization, we should start discussing our and other mental health with the people we trust and we think that they shall definitely make a way for us to overcome that situation. In the past pandemics, people used to stay completely isolated without their disposition but now in the present century, we are quite lucky that we have the option to stay connected through various digital platforms. So, we focus on the positive things, channelize our energy towards new interests, and try to remain connected with our loved ones through various means. With the passing time, mental health has improved in the urban mob making them realize that they can’t run and anticipate faster than any situation which is going to come in near future whereas the rural mob is still in a delusion state of panic and fear as they don’t have proper protective gears which shall help them to stay safe from this virus. So the community mental health providers should now mobilize resources and mechanisms in a positive way so that the best features of the person’s identity would reinforce valuable reserves of authenticity and belief in the face of adversity.
