Are We Humane Enough?

Are We Humane Enough?

At times I tend to think what I’m doing with my life. Apart from the daily grinding routine of life there’s nothing which could bring joy or a sense of satisfaction to me. I’ve been a teacher all my life and a mother. Hence, the designation ‘Mother Teacher’. I love being with my students, they always act as soothsayers no matter what kind of mood I am in. Their honest and innocent questions actually make you think, and think hard. There’s so much pain and suffering around us, so much to see. Yet we choose to turn a blind eye towards it all. Why? We’ve been asking this question from a long time yet we fail to find an answer. If we truly introspect, the answer is not so hard to find. It lies within us hidden under the innumerable layers of the subconscious and which we repeatedly push downwards. It never comes to the fore and it never will. Because Human is no doubt the smartest and the best creation of God yet he has fallen a prey to materialism: a love of adoration, popularity wrapped up in the package of self centeredness. It is all because we’ve forgotten that we belong to each other.

We are never self made; self sustainability is the hoax of the century. We are made up of thousands of others. Or so I think. What we need right now is not money or huge assets but an upbringing that will shake off all this fascism, communalism, and an insatiable lust for power growing its roots in society. We don’t need Gods or Messiahs to liberate us. Do you think God is going to help when you can’t help yourself? The world in general and our society in particular needs good parenting and teaching. If we teach our children to become tolerant every day, each and every minute they’ll definitely follow suit. Family and School, these two decide what mindset a child may possess in the years to come. And so We, the Teachers have all the more responsibility to mould them for a peaceful journey of life. Our duty shouldn’t only be to manufacture doctors, engineers, bankers or administrators (spoon fed automatons), we should work simultaneously to create, to facilitate the sense of humanity in our children, as they’re the torch bearers for the generations to come. We’ve to save humanity and we have to do it together.

Saving the world through super powers could only happen in a Marvel superhero movie. So instead of making them watch superhero movies we should sit with them and have a healthy discussion every now and then about people, about life, its hardships, their responsibility towards friends and family, towards society and nation. Positivity comes from within. For a healthy body we need a healthy peaceful mind. So on this note I would drop down my pen and request everyone to give it a thought. It is high time, time for introspection.
