INTRODUCTION

Living in ‘The Sapphire City’, Alyssa and Blake were two friends who showed a lot of interest in investigating things and finding out the real stuff behind complicated matters. Everyone does, but these friends were some different stories. They had participated in many real-life mysteries, and, had some-what helped in solving things too! You can say that Alyssa and Blake were close friends, as their parents were good friends. And also, these two had been living in Sapphire City since they’d learn to talk. They only had each other till they entered high school where they solved the case of the missing Sapphire (no wonder it’s called the ‘Sapphire City’). And that was when they became the city famous “Adventure Maniacs”.

Chapter One:

“First days of school aren’t that boring.”

The month of April begins, which means the school had just started for Alyssa and Blake.

There are two types of students on the first day of school: Firstly, there are the students who are all smiles and excited. You will surely hear these children using this kind of speech:

“Yaay! It’s the first day of school! I’m soo excited to go! There’ll be new this, new that, new everything!”

Or this:

“I can’t wait to see my old pals and make some new friends! What if we meet new teachers? Ooh ooh! I love the introduction part with the new teachers and new students!”

And there come to the students who dread going to school; okay, they don’t hate going to school but they hate to disturb their beauty sleep just for the sake of school. You’ll usually hear them say:

“Why couldn’t schools open in the afternoon?!”

“Ugh! Same old boring school!”

“Why am I not in college?” And so on.

Blake and Alyssa were one of the second types: they hated getting up for school. “School begins! I am so NOT excited! Yaay!” the already-bored Blake exclaims his boredom.

“You won’t believe, my mom poured a glass of water on my face to wake me up!” Alyssa narrated her first-day-of-school morning story. These two were in their classes already, unfolding their tales of morning-getting-up-session to each other.

Chapter Two:

“A picnic?”

Mr. Raymond, their class teacher, walks in. “Good morning my dearest students! Hope you all made the best of your holidays! I know some of you go through the worst level of boredom on the first day of school, so I’ve decided to take you, children, on a special trip! And I must say your class president is the best one; for he has decided on this trip of yours. Kindly appreciate him by clapping for him!”

“Yaay!”

“Woohoo!”

“Yes!”

Al the students of class 7A cheer and celebrate whilst clapping for Percy. They are happy because they will be the only class going for a picnic on the first day of school! So, for the next period, they keep exchanging ideas on what activities they will do on the picnic.

“Oh, thank you very much for organizing the trip!” Percy’s classmates keep praising him through the corridors in the short break.

The seniors, who were secretly listening to their conversation, whisper something…….

Chapter Three:

“Leave for the trip……or not?”

As soon as the break is over, the class packs up and everyone makes a line for leaving. The teacher counts the class students and realizes that one child is missing!

“Blake, why don’t you bring the class president from wherever he might be?” Mr. Raymond asks while he does some paperwork.

“Yes, sir.”

After some time, Blake comes running to Mr. Raymond, “Sir! Percy is missing! I checked in the whole school!”

“Oh no!”

“What will happen?”

“Where is he?”

The students start to panic; Where is Percy?

“Don’t you worry my dear students, we shall now spread in groups to find Percy.” Mr. Raymond reassures the children and all of them divide in groups to find THAT person.

After some serious inspection, the class teacher announces, “I’m afraid we will have to cancel our plans for the picnic, our Percy is more valuable to us, isn’t he?”

“Yes, of course, sir.” The sad children answer respectfully.

“Sir, we can make the whole school stay the night for finding him?” a student suggests “Yes sir, please can we stay?” another one pleads, then everyone in a crowd starts to plead.

“It is a yes from me but let me ask the principal first.” The teacher replied and left the classroom.

Chapter Four:

“The Stay Back”

It is announced in the school; all students except the primary classes will stay back for finding Percy. The parents will be informed of everything.

Later on, everyone went busy finding and finding THE CHILD, but then no one was successful in doing so.

Son, it becomes late, so the principal then announces that it’s the time to sleep and that the school will continue finding him tomorrow. while all the children arrange their sleeping bench for sleeping, the teachers assemble and check the CCTV of the school. It showed that Percy once exited the classroom, but never came back. The camera recording from the gate showed that Percy never left the school premises. The camera footage of the corridors of the school was checked, but they showed that Percy never left the class after entering it!

It seems the person behind this is pretty smart in fooling cameras……….

Chapter Five:

“This is a ‘Fishy’ conversation….”

Everyone was asleep but Blake. He didn’t go to sleep because of this uneasiness inside him; which usually happens when something goes wrong. ‘Maybe roaming around the school halls would help.’ He thought. But he was entirely unaware of what he was about to witness; it wasn’t planned for him to listen.

There he went, roaming around the corridors of the school when he heard some people talking:

“He’s with you, isn’t he?”

He hid behind a wall to hear the conversation.

“Yes, he is. What am I supposed to do with him? Throw him in the trash?”

“Not at all, my friend. Let’s have some pity for the people, I’m planning to release him tomorrow; with some spice on top….” Blake could hear the person rubbing his hands in a mischievous way; he was definitely planning trouble…….

Chapter Six:

“The Research”

Blake is horror-struck right now. Such a cruel person! He plans on eavesdropping on them but he hears steps walking towards him so he has no choice except running away. He knew where he was going, to where the girls were sleeping; he needed to talk to Alyssa.

The door of the girls’ class, wasn’t locked, which made him easier to reach his best friend. He tiptoed over to Aly, making sure he moves with silence and hits no one.

“Pssst Aly! Wake up! It’s me Blake”

“Mmm...... what do you want?” She mumbles in her sleep.

“Get up quick! I think I have a clue where Percy might be!”

Hearing this, Alyssa gets up immediately. They walk to another classroom.

They look here and there to make sure none is listening, then Blake narrates the whole story about him eavesdropping.

“So, you’re telling me you heard them talking about Percy but you don’t know who was talking?” Alyssa collects the situation, she was thinking something.

Blake speaks up, “Let’s recall this now: The whole school checked everyplace in the school, the camera footage of the corridors show that Percy didn’t leave the class, but the footage of the class tells a different story. This means-”

“Wait, how do you know that?” Alyssa interrupts Blake.

“Mr. Raymond told me so. He told me about the whole discussion of the teachers. Now, do NOT disturb me,” he pauses, then continues,

“This is a fake CCTV footage. The seniors have learned it in their workshop which was conducted recently in our school.”

“One of the seniors has ‘taken away’ our Percy and kept him somewhere. We are sure he never left school premises because I have checked in with the security at the gate. Don’t ask me when or how, but I somehow did it. As per my knowledge, Percy once left the classroom but never came back. The school has checked everyplace but not EVERY place.”

“You’re smart. What’s the plan?” asked Blake with a smile on his face. He knew they were gathering the pieces of the mystery. They were getting somewhere.

“Here,” Alyssa shreds her thinking and they make a plan.

Chapter Seven:

“Execution of the Plan”

The next day, the ‘Adventure Maniacs’ ran towards their class teacher and blurted out their yesterday’s discussion, making sure no one was around.

Mr. Raymond smiled, “You two are the smartest of the students! I shall tell this to the principal!”

About an hour later, the principal walks into class 9 and announces, “I want you all to deposit the keys to your lockers, you will get later, and don’t worry about your belongings, they won’t be touched. This class will be taken to the science lab now.”

Along with the principal, walked in Mr. Raymond and the maniacs. As soon as the class left, the four of them began opening the lockers. The lockers were big enough for two persons to hide, so checking the lockers was reasonable. After checking quite a few lockers, Blake shrieked “Alyssa! Mr. Raymond! Oh my god, Percy!”

There inside the locker, lay poor little Percy; all tied up with some tiffins and a couple of water bottles, scattered. He sat there, looking terror-struck.

“Oh no! Percy are you okay?”

“Percy! Untie him, Blake!”

They untied him, then Mr. Raymond asked: “Who did this to you?” Percy burst into tears

“Th-they- didn’t-let-me-sp-speak,” he said, sounding broken and wailed harder. He controlled himself and tried to speak nicely “It was Kaiden Scott and his friend, Hunter, they said I shouldn’t have planned the picnic for our class.”

“That’s it, go to the infirmary room, I have to make an announcement.” The principal said firmly and left the class.

Something was about to happen.

Chapter Eight:

“The Confrontation”

After not much time, the school was given instructions to assemble in the hall.

“I have gathered the information that small innocent children are being kept in lockers! Is this a new trend? What a shame!” the principal, Mr. Lorry, was very angry. He asked Kaiden Scott and Hunter Anderson to come on the stage, say sorry and explain themselves and their actions.

“We’re sorry for doing what we’ve done. I hate the first days of school, when I heard that class 7A is going for a trip, jealousy took over me. I wanted to hit Percy for planning the trip for THEM and not the US. I said Hunter about the plan of mine and asked him to handle the camera footage since he attended the workshop about that. We were aware that the footage room’s keys were kept with Mr. Hartnett, our class teacher. We found the keys lying on his table when he went out of the class for some work in the second period. We decided to prank him then but in the short break, we found out class 7A is going for a picnic; our plans immediately changed from a prank to a serious issue. When the teachers were in the lunchroom, we implemented our plan of moving and deleting some footages.”

Mr. Lorry said they will be given TC from the school for committing such a bad crime.

And of course, at last, the ‘Maniacs’ were thanked, for their smartness presence of mind, cleverness and all that bravery stuff.

What about the trip? Class 7A did go to their picnic and enjoyed it a lot.
