A Weary Bus Travel

A Weary Bus Travel

I was standing in a pathetic situation on a moving bus, fighting with two competitors to hold a steel hand bar in order to keep our self stable and to occupy a seat on a jerking bus. Soon I realized the other two are very strong and trained in this area. I became one of the audiences then, as I was the first one to be eliminated out of the competition. This competition started once we all three noticed the person who is sitting on the window seat is taking a ticket for Pillar, which is some 10 KM far and we need to travel another 12 KM to reach our destination. Since it’s a Monday morning, the crowd was two times more than the usual days. I started pattering myself saying if it was a Friday then I would have won the completion. My focus turned to the other two opponents. I just started wondering about seeing the strategies that they use on one another to win the hand bar and the seat then. One was slanting towards the seat holding one hand on the black rod fitted to the head of the seat, while the other one placed his left leg in between the legs of an adjacent traveler sitting nearby. Those techniques symbolize their skill in the bus travel unlike me, as I used to travel on a crowded bus only once in a while.

My sight just fell on a girl who is standing on the front row, to be exact, just behind the driver. She was wearing a light green dress covering all her face and head with the help of her shawl and I could hardly see her glowing brownish eyes. Why she is covering her face? The question aroused in me. Is it to safeguard her face from heat and dust? Is it a religious custom? Will this screen keep Romeos away? Is she safe from an acid attack? Then I thought, why I should bother about all these. Is it my duty to enquire? Or is she my sister or a relative? I simply smiled within me when I realized that this much of questions aroused in me on seeing that masked girl. By this time that place was occupied by another girl. She was also wearing a similar mask the other girl was wearing. I smiled again and searched for my opponents. I was shocked to see some other person sitting on that window seat, for which we were initially fighting for. Those two warriors were still hanging themselves on hand bars looking for another opportunity.

I noticed people getting down and boarding on each and every stop but I wasn't able to obtain a seat. I decided to stick on a steel bar nearby me. I then saw a gent’s seat occupied by a fat lady and a schoolboy was sitting adjacent to her. Both of them were carrying angry faces. My intuition started building up a story. The lady would be the mother of the schoolboy and she would be going for a parent-teachers meet in that boy’s school. The boy would have scored poor marks and his mother might be worried to face the teachers of her son. Suddenly the lady stood up and got down from the bus but the boy was still on the bus seeing out through the window. The ticket collector gave the green sign to move the bus and the bus started moving. I urged the schoolboy to get down but he replied, my stop is yet to come. My face blemished and I felt guilty for thinking too much. By this time the other seat was occupied by another person. The schoolboy was keenly watching my face like he read all my imaginations and generously asked me, "Do you want to sit?" I immediately said yes as I was fully tired. The boy gave me his seat right away without any hesitation.

I was just moved by the kindness that the boy showered on me. I thank the boy and relaxed after an hour of weary travel on that bus. I noticed the other two warriors were still hanging on the hand bars. The boy bid goodbye with a warm smile and got down from the bus in another couple of minutes. I reached my destination after traveling thirty minutes and while getting down I felt completely relaxed and full of positive energy just because of the generous hands of a schoolboy.
