Chapter 34

John saw the mirror in front of him slowly fogging up.. he started panicking… his heart beating out of his chest.. he brought his shivering hands up to the mirror to wipe off the fog that appeared out of nowhere… as he wiped down the mirror, he saw a misty form behind him wearing a pink dress with long open hair... The mirror fogged up again, John wiped off the water droplets but couldn't see the apparition any longer, John quickly turned to check and he saw none... He kept splashing water on his face and came out of the washroom, wiping his face, he sat down on the cot, he threw the towel away, laid on the cot and closed his eyes, the image kept flashing in his mind over and over again. John became restless.. he tried to divert his mind.. after a few minutes of tossing and turning on his bed, John jolted up and murmured to himself “no, no I can't take this anymore!!” he changed, took his bike key and walked out without even saying a word to Jency. 

While riding his bike John called Sandeep but his calls went unanswered. Since Charles stayed close to Sandeep, he called Charles and said: “I want to meet you guys immediately, Sandeep did not attend my call”. “Fine John, come to "The Royal pub". Sandeep and I will meet you there” replied Charles.

John reached the pub in 20 minutes and without much delay Sandeep and Charles arrived... The minute John saw Sandeep he hugged him tight and cried his heart out... “What's wrong John? Why are you crying like this?” Panicked Sandeep. “speak out John don't… don’t scare us!” said Charles... “Narayan is right, he is right…the spirit behind me is none other than Roslyn". “What are you saying? asked a staggered Sandeep... “How do you know it's Roslyn” questioned Charles. “I.. I saw her with both my eyes!!” sobbed John placing his face in his palms... “John, stop acting like this..” said Sandeep and forcefully stopped him...

“I saw her dude….I saw her” cried John... Charles said “calm down John”. “How can I Charles??? How can I?? After knowing that it’s Roslyn!!”. “How are you so sure that it's Roslyn?” asked Charles... John explained them about what exactly happened in the washroom... Sandeep's eyes almost popped out of his skull, both Charles and Sandeep were speechless... “Did you see her face? Are you really sure it's Roslyn??” questioned Charles... “Her face was covered with hair but don't I know my Roslyn? And who else will care that much for me?” Replied John after he gulped beer.

John banged his fist on the table and screamed “what has happened to her? Why did she leave this world? Why did she have to break my heart and my hopes of meeting her again?.. I am a coward, I let her go, I made her suffer, I am such a useless person…I don’t deserve to live anymore!!!” cried John and broke the bottle... He took a piece of bottle in his hand and said: “I should be punished..” Charles and Sandeep begged “John please listen to us, throw it away, let's first figure out what happened to Roslyn” but John threatened them saying don't you both dare to come beside me...

He tried to cut his wrist but someone held his hand tight, John looked at his friends they were screaming and requesting John not to do it, John looked at his hand again, no one was around him, but he still couldn't move his hands, the broken piece of glass too fell from John's hand by itself... John started sweating, he looked around and two full bottles of beer which were on the table cracked and shattered on their own... John knew how it happened. Sandeep and Charles were terrorized, they both dragged John out of the pub... “What's all these John? What's happening here?” Questioned a petrified Charles.. With tears in his eyes he replied “Roslyn saved me again, she held my hand to stop me from hurting myself and then she broke the bottles so that I can't drink anymore”.

All three kept walking, John said “I am unable to digest the fact that Roslyn is not alive”. “but where was she all these days? Why has she come to me now? How do we figure out what happened to her? All these years we have been trying to gather information about her but we couldn't and even now I have no idea about how to get her details” replied Sandeep. “Why to struggle so much? Swamiji is coming down this Sunday anyway. he will talk to the ghost and tell us what actually happened”... John screamed on top of his lungs "Charles, stop addressing her as Ghost, she is my angel" he said... Charles ignored his words and said “I will talk to Swamiji again. Don't worry we will get answer to all your questions very soon”. “John look it's already 11pm. come on let's go home” said Sandeep and accompanied him.

 Jency rushed to open the door when she heard the sound of john’s vehicle. The minute she realized he was drunk, she quietly walked into her room and john followed. Jency lay on the bed with her eyes closed. John did not talk to her, he switched off the light and hit the bed... The entire night they both were struggling to sleep... Jency was worried about John and John was lost in Roslyn's thoughts... After sometime they went to sleep.

It was Wednesday morning, John opened his eyes and looked at the clock and it showed "11:30am". He took his mobile and texted Narayan that he wouldn't be coming to work today. He then walked into the washroom took shower and went to the living room, Jency saw him coming she placed his breakfast on the table and walked away. John grabbed her by the arm to stop her, Jency spoke nothing John made her sit and holding her hand he said "I am sorry, I know I have hurt you…. a lot”. “No worries John it's your life, live as you like who am I to question you, also tell me if you don’t want to stay with me any longer. I will go elsewhere..” replied Jency in anger. “Jency please don't ever say that you will leave me… I am already in agony for losing her I can't effort to lose you too” replied John without knowing what he spoke... Jency yanked out her hand from his grip, her face turning red with rage "what did you just say?" "What did you just say John? What do you mean by losing her?" she questioned him. “Tell me John” she screamed as she shook him by his collar... Tears rolled down his cheeks, “I will tell you Jency, I will tell you everything” he said.

John told Jency about Roslyn, how much he loved her and what happened in the college... Jency was speechless, “did you love her so much John? Do you love her more than you love me?” she questioned lips quivering, her eyes shining with tears. John's lips bloomed with a little smile... “Is she back in your life again? You have become a different person.. Are you cheating on me with her?” Jency questioned. Possessiveness and the fear of losing John was clearly visible in her eyes... “I will tell you Jency but don't be scared or worried,” said John... “Tell me” screamed Jency... John told her all about his ghost experience... Jency froze in shock... “Do... Do you mean the ghost is in our house with us always?” She asked looking around the house. “don't be scared it will never hurt us” replied John... Jency forgot all her possessiveness sat beside John holding his hands she said “please John don't let me stay alone in this house”.

Three days passed.. John did not leave Jency alone at home... Finally, it was Saturday "Alumni day". Since Jency was scared to stay alone at home John asked Sandeep to bring his wife Pavithra and kids home, the minute they reached John and Sandeep left to college... They both reached, Sean came gave them both a hug, each and every place in the college reminded John of Roslyn... He walked a little further where there was a huge tree, it was under this tree John and Roslyn would always sit and talk...

John, Sean and Sandeep walked close to the tree, Sean and Sandeep were busy talking while john’s breath quickened he felt like his heart was in his throat. “Sandeep look” he pointed his finger under the tree, Sandeep first looked at John, he was sweating and then he looked at the tree and there he saw a girl in pink salwar and open hair... Looking at Sandeep and John, Sean too looked at the tree and screamed: "Oh my god.. isn’t that Roslyn?"
