A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed

It was a cloudy morning in Raghavpur. Nachiket had disturbed sleep the whole night.  His mobile ringing continuously irritated him. He was facing serious problems and was unable to find a solution. Nachiket was working as a business executive at Surya detergent company at Raghavpur for five years. He was instrumental in bringing the company on track. His sincere and hard work paid dividends to the company. He was in the good books of the management. 

Suddenly, one morning, he was stopped at the main gate of the company by a security guard and he was given a closed cover. When he opened it, he was surprised to see his removal from service. This development caused him terrible uneasiness. Reasons for termination were not mentioned in the letter.

 He thought the morning caller's intention may be good and he lifted the phone.

“Who are you sir?”

“Why do you want my name? I am your well-wisher. Do you want to get out of your problems? Listen to me carefully.”

“Yes sir.”

“You didn't know who played mischief on you? You are innocent, sincere, honest and a hard worker. During the last month's business review meeting of the company, it was reported that due to your wrong decision, the company had to suffer a loss to the tune of rupees one lakh. You are in incharge of the sales division, The management has terminated you from the service without following the due procedures like placing under suspension pending enquiry. You may be astonished to know the real culprit is Kalpana, wife of Manikant General manager of the company. She is doing the saree business with the knowledge of her husband. Manikant orally advised Nachiket to help Arunodaya store a customer to whom you have supplied the products. The same customer had an understanding with Kalpana and helped her in the sale of sarees. Meet a young man in white dress having curly hair in Krishna lodge room number 150 tomorrow at 11 am and Inform him what has happened. He is a nice gentleman and helps you,” said the unknown caller. 

“Sir, please let me know your name?”

“You will come to know my name when you meet the youngman.”

Nachiket went to the lodge the next day and knocked on the door number 150. The door was opened, Nachiket was surprised to see his friend Kiran, who by profession was a lawyer and also consulting lawyer to Surya detergent company.

Nachiket entered inside and could not speak for a while.

“What happened to you? I am your childhood friend Kiran.”

“First, let me know, yesterday who spoke to me on a mobile?”

Kiran was laughing and said,

“I spoke to you yesterday.”

“The voice was totally different. How is it possible?”

“Nachi, I know the art of ‘dysphonia’, an art of voice change. I used it for you to keep my identity in suspense.”

“ Kiran, I am happy that you know this art. How do you help me in coming out of my problem?”

“You know, I am your company's lawyer.”

Both spent some time and left. 

 Kumar met the chairman of the company on the following day and explained the case of Nachiket. The chairman was convinced and said,

“Kiran, don't worry. I will issue two orders. One is reinstating Nachiket and issuing a warning letter to Manikant to stop his wife from interfering in the company affairs and make good of the loss incurred by the company.”

Nachiket praised Kiran as 'a friend in need is a friend indeed.
