It was 7 a. m when Arpita reached the Tezpur ASTC bus stand. She got into the bus bound to Lakhimpur. The conductor of the bus helped her with the luggage. She occupied a vacant seat by the window and felt comfortable. The bus started and finally, the tiresome journey began.

She felt happy on reaching the bys stop in time. She was returning home for her Bihu holidays. Bohag is the season of blissfulness. Bohag brings joy to everyone's life. The mellifluous voice of the cuckoo bird came wafting through the air.

The bus stopped for some time in Mission Chariali. A tall handsome boy got into the bus. He was smartly dressed, his hair well combed. He wore a blue shirt and a black pant and had a big bag on his back. He occupied one of the empty seats and then taking out his cell phone became busy in his own world.

The bus moved on at its fastest pace. She decided to whirl away some time peeping outside. through the windows. She spotted several orchids in full bloom in the betelnut trees. These flowers Kopou,Bhato Phool add sufficient beauty to glorify Bihu-the beauty of spring and the time for merry making in Assam. They add sufficient beauty to the season. It is these beauties of nature which indicate the approach of Bohag. The Kopou flower graces its presence in many Bihu songs

Her train of thoughts broke with the conductors call asking her fare. She had woken up early to catch the 6'o clock university bus. So she was very tired. The moment she laid down her head on the bus seat dhe started dozing. When she woke up the bus had reached Biswanath Chariali. The bus stopped for 10 minutes. The bus started moving. The driver turned on the music system and some old Bihu songs started playing. Taking out the newly brought book of Amish "The Oath of the Vayuputras" she flipped through the pages. After some time she again started dozing.

When she opened her eyes she found the bus parked in Gohpur bus stand. She tied together her hair in a bun and drank some water. She realized that she had slept for quite a long time. She got down from the bus to purchase some fruits from a nearby shop. Her eyes tracked a man near the fruit shop. He came to her seeking alms. His clothes were shabby. Both his legs were absent. She gave him a five rupee note. On enquiring she found out that the man had lost both of his legs in an accident and has been staying in the bus stand since then. Limping he got into the bus with his bowl. Some people cared to throw some coins in his bowl whereas others avoided it. The conductor informed him that the bus was about to start. He got down and went away.

Her mind was disturbed. It was filled with thoughts about the man she had met. She mused to herself. We meet so many people in our journeys to different places. Some with broken hands, others blind and still some others who get both of their legs amputated. They aspire for nothing. The only motive is to satisfy their stomach. We lose nothing when we give some coins in their bowls. But often people misbehave with them, chase them out and talk rudely with them. She felt more privileged to have a healthy body in perfect condition.

She reached Lakhimpur at about 2. 30 p. m. Her father received her at the bus stand. She prayed to God for everything. The only thoughts that reverberated at the back of her mind as she laid down her eyes drooping out of weariness were "What sin have I done my child, why God has let me to suffer this way?"
