A Confinement

A Confinement

John sat there restless flinging pebbles at the otherwise steady lake. The disturbance created the ripples that emanated from a point and radiated along. The sunset cast a reddish tint on the colourless water. There was silence except for the hustling of the leaves and the chirping of the birds. There were occassional squawks of the ducks.

John’s mind was entangled in an array of thoughts. He wanted some clarity on the standing of their relationship ever since they parted. He tried to understand the compromises and promises that were made at the start of their relationship. The questions on what went wrong and scope for improvement triggered internal conflicts at his end. People advised him let go of the past and move on.

It was not just about erasing out memories it was about sharing emotions. Emotions that were confined deep inside that took him away from himself. The mirrors that once admired his beauty reflected his stained emotions now. His self-retrospection went without any focus pre-occupied with misunderstanding and an enigma about her.

John could feel her presence but it seemed to disappear. He could sense it. It’s a matter of time, waiting and being patient. It’s just unfortunate how things can get so weird at this place once it gets dark. He searched for her silhouettes that the faded Sun cast on the waters.

John felt his fears creeping up. He was sweating uncontrollably losing his thoughts. He felt extremely tired as he felt weightless. He felt things around him vanishing slowly. There was darkness all around that never seemed to end.

With some gentle persuasion from her, John tried to let go the confined past of a broken relationship. The scent of rose and sherbet hit his nose as he pressed her hands to his lips. Maybe she was the last person who could lead him out of his confinement.
