You and Me

If you were you and I were me,

If only we were us 

without the baggage of expectations.

If you could cry whenever you want

and weren't judged on your tears,

If I could laugh and smile wherever I want

and wasn't called a slut for that.

If you were asked to live for yourself 

and not to take the responsibility of everybody else,

If I were asked to live for myself

and not be responsible for everybody else.

If you were given the choice of choosing things

without being pushed to do what others are doing,

If I were given the choice of choosing things

without being called out names.

If you could cook food and 

I could ride a bike,

If we wouldn't be thinking about the roles and gender

but about us.

Only if you were you and I were me,

If only we were us,

It'd be different, it'd all be so different.
