Windshield Of Heart

This windshield

is the perfect metaphor

for my heart

For despite being a sheet

of broken glass

It still functions

as though thoroughly

intact

It allows me to see

what I need to see

While the blemish is there

to remind me

That not all journeys

are pain free

Sure, I could replace it

with a pristine sheet

And I could hope

that future trips

will be perfectly sweet

But experience tells me

it will crack again...

you'll see

So I befriend

the imperfections

life throws

at my feet
