The Daughter...

In her room she sits alone...

Bridal makeup and wedding attire...

She'll marry a man she's never known...

Against her will, against her desire...

He's rich and of her family's caste...

A bond built on sand, that never lasts...

She wished to study and become successful...

Her dreams crushed and situations stressful...

She slides the knife into her heart...

Hoping the next life gives a new start...

The Wife...

He returns home drunk and full of rage...

Her life's book turns, yet another page...

She's taken kicks to her stomach, and beatings to her back...

Her cries seem amusing and her monster claps...

Demands for dowry from the monster's mother!

Repeated rapes at the hands of his brother...

Her parents refuse entry, for the family's respect...

A father whose duty was his daughter to protect...

She sees no escape and devises a plan...

Her body found hanging, from a ceiling fan...

The society....

Shame on us for this wicked crime...

Our daughters died because of our illiterate minds...

Woe unto mothers who send their daughters to die...

To the fathers who let their angels cry...

Shame on us to just "let it be"...

At least our daughters are now finally free....
