This body is mine, but

Feel how it aches, look how it breaks;

This mind is mine, but

It wanders so alike a petulant child;

This breath is mine, but 

I don't know the count till the very end;

This life is mine, but

It’s filled with fears and regrets;

This name is mine, but 

Shakespeare asked: “what’s in a name?”

This fame is mine, but

What would I not do to be invisible;

This success is mine, but

Won’t be too long before I’m found out;

This wealth is mine, but

I’m told death and taxes are inevitable;

This house is mine, but

Actually, not for another twenty years;

This country is mine, but

Only until I keep shut my mouth;

This family is mine, but

I feel so alone even in their midst;

This love is mine, but

All it has given me is hurt and pain;

This poetry is mine, because

That is all that’s ever possessed me.
