That Moment Before

A moment before I had eaten and laughed

A moment before I had counted the stars

A moment before I had looked at my brother

A moment before I had chatted with my sister

That moment before was a blissful hour

 

A moment before I was full of spark

A moment before I was touched and cried

A moment before I was filled with pride

A moment before I wished I had tried

That moment before was a cherished hour

 

A moment before mother promised to come

A moment before father made some fun

A moment before I was loved and cared

A moment before was something I liked

That moment before was a life with light

 

Now that I sit in this room of dark

There is no light there is no fright

Now I feel no pain no cry

For when I see them in despair and fright

For now I am gone leaving them in plight

But there ain't no thing I can bring back to life

I shout their names but all in vain

For there ain't none to look at me the same

For death has come with all its pride

Taking me with her in a painless ride.

 

But that moment before was a blissful hour

For that moment before is all I ever asked.
