Slumber
Slumber
She knows to be in control; and how!
A no is a NO, loud and clear
Her diction or lack of it, never a barrier
My threats and pleas sincere
Were wasted on deaf ears
As I lulled her to sleep with tender care
She fancied a new white ball, she declared
And wanted to bring home the moon up there
And to wear the rainbow on her hair
While the skies hurried to protect their ware
Look at her smiling snottily
It is not the Mt. Everest, Ms. Haughty!
It’s just one faltering step, after trials feisty
And many failed attempts, maybe forty
Strong memory was probably not her forte
The hand that rocked the cradle
May have ruled William’s world
But my petite cradler-turned toddler
Had a mind of her own, and quite able
She wrapped me around her little finger
And pinched me awake from my deep slumber
I too was once curious and carefree, I remembered
Loving the moments as life then unfolded
