Sleep Eludes
Sleep Eludes
Between flesh and spirit
my being has started crumbling
my girth has depleted to a considerable limit
in the meantime
the frame now is just a heap of bones
wrapped by intimate layers of skin
how to procure food for my dear ones
remains at the back of my mind all the time
I toil hard to give them the best
even at the cost of my break even
People have lost jobs, find it difficult to eke out a living
many poor and destitute like me
go without food and shelter
for days together
promulgation of lockdown
to ease the pandemic's frown
has shoveled sign of relief further
Each night
after bequeathing my share of comfort for my own
to procure a modest amount of sleep and fuel my morn
I resign to the tattered blanket ...
my lonesome companion of late
sleep eludes me ..yet I try to keep my grip tight
pangs of hunger for sure
overpowers my status and the plight
Like the sword of Damocles, hangs the imminent
spreads tentacles shunt me away from the blissful state
It inches closer to hug my body, held me captive
sends cold shivers across my spine
the scary C has sown seeds of fear
sent invitation for the dreadful D to throw mankind out of gear
but I shall face the impending
fight it out till the last breath
be not overconfident O! Death.
