Simple Pleasures of Life
Simple Pleasures of Life
The morning seemed heavy and dry,
Not a bird stirred in the sky.
There was a stillness in the air,
the wind nowhere in sight,
I couldn't quiet fathom why.
Though I longed to linger awhile,
Obligation called swift and loud,
Chores waited with quiet demand,
I had to rise, and set to work,
with clarity and dexterity.
Aroma of coffee curled through the air,
Warmth in it's scent, comfort in it's care,
A melodious strain of music, floated from afar,
and through the window,
yellow blooming laburnum lifted my spirit high.
How magical the ordinary can be,
when we slow down and truly see,
but wrapped in weariness and worries,
small joys blur into obscurity.
Let the simple pleasures quietly fill you,
Sip tea, beneath the radiant Sun,
Listen to your favourite tune,
Sleep with your pet tucked close,
Relish a slice of home-baked cake,
Dance with the birds at noon.
They cost but little yet usher,
Joy beyond measure.
