Pity The Ruling Elite

What are you? A sycophantic sod?

Pardon, I can’t hear you; speak up,

I’m trifle deaf, say what you said, again,

“Pity the ruling elite”

Forgive me. “Pity” is an ill-chosen word,

Suggests a positive mental attitude,

Might I re-phrase that? Very good idea!

Why don’t you do that? What did you mean?

When I think about it. Suppression is a response,

A response to what? The elite’s power is based,

On a tower of cards; carefully crafted myths,

And half-truths, with a scattering of outright lies.

Then come those who benefit directly from the situation,

Slightly ahead of those benefitting indirectly, hangers-on,

Lastly, there are the suppressed and downtrodden masses,

What are they saying? If there was anyone who cared.

“Pity the ruling elite. Their reign is threatened,

And they are aware of it?” The awareness of which,

Is a purely cognitive function, with no emotion,

Do you wish them a rapid departure?

The next elite will be better?

Beware of what one wishes.
