My survival on a loose thread

My anguish seemed to have roused a wind

Rustling the leaves as a cry for help

The breeze slowly abated

Leaving a silence in its place

Then amid the darkness, a tiny light flickered on

That one became two and two became many

As if the fireflies were summoned to be my hosts

They hovered around me for comfort

Before darting away all that once

When I stood rooted in my spot

The bushes beneath my shoe wriggled to hasten

my pursuit and as I took a step forward

I could have sworn the trees moved

To open up to a trail and as I

Picked up my speed, following my hosts

I realized maybe
