Only Look Back If It Makes You

The weather changes and time flies by,

Sitting by the window she wonders why,

What seemed a long day yesterday is over today,

What seems like a wonderful future will not forever stay,

She wonders why we feel sad and why we cry,

When we know nothing will last and the sorrow will pass by,

Sipping her cup of coffee she laughs at pleasant past memories,

Thinking about the ingredients and counting her calories,

And then there comes a drop of tear from a memory she cherished,

From a dream that was left incomplete and has now replenished,

Was there regret in her heart for the things which were left undone?

Could she have done something to change her foregone past?

Why should one wonder so often about that which can’t be changed?

When we all know that everything is temporary and nothing will ever last,

Think of the moments you cherish because that is the only thing worthwhile,

Don’t shed tears reminiscing sad moments and only look back if it makes you smile
