Menacing laughs echo in a perturbed night
No woman is safe even in the day from the sinister sights
Truth is incinerated by vicious lies
Seeing the cold ashes the motherland cries…
When screams of agony are buried by the silence
Pleas of justice are suppressed by violence
For her basic dignity and rights, the victim has to fight
Noticing her impotency the motherland falls quiet…
When a female takes her last breath
Candles are lit only after her death
Caste and creed becomes the reason for hate to spread
From visualizing dystopian future the motherland dreads…
Where taboo is talking about menstruation
Proscribed is the word ‘sex’; let alone education
And yet the word ‘rape’ is normalized
The celibacy of motherland seems compromised
When the victim is blamed for perpetrator’s crimes
Heinous offences are reduced to page three headlines
Where the gender itself becomes the cause of the abuse
The motherland seems beaten, battered and bruised
Where no daughter feels safe and secured
Inciting fear, only shame is assured
After an outburst or two the nonchalant society proceeds
Watching the scared souls of its children the motherland bleeds…
