Little Fish
Little Fish

Little fish, I envy you.
I wish I had the ability
To hold my breath like you do;
So that I could not drown
In blood, ink, or tears,
But let it all pass swiftly
Through my delicate little gills.
I wish my lungs didn’t burn
Every time I go swimming
Having to resurface as soon as I jump,
To gulp the air I’m missing.
I wish I could explore
Your world so vast and blue
But I’m limited to consequences,
Little fish I envy you.
