Choosing Myself

Choosing Myself

“Choose Yourself,” we’re told. “Always first.”

But I just have trouble

Seeing others get hurt.

Is it better to drink, while you watch someone thirst?

I’ve always put myself behind every lover, family member, friend, and every other.

I’ve never been one, to sit by the fire, while watching others freeze out in the dark night.

Now don’t get me wrong, I do show myself some love

I just put other’s needs far above

My own desires or wants; have never come first,

And maybe it’s not what they mean and their reasons are just

But choosing myself sounds like the worst.
