Last Dance
Last Dance
The evening fire was lit
Elders sat around it as it blazed into the night
I could see it light fear into the eyes of my peers
That moment had come, we were to accept the outcomes
At the first tap of his sticks on the drum
The electric feeling that flowed in my veins with my blood was an activation
Made me really know it was time
As the drum beat
My feet while tapping dug deep into the sand until they were buried out of sightings
My heartbeat systematically went with the drums beat
I could not contain the feeling and so I made my first move
Scooping in the air the sand that my feet had dug into
The whole of my body was in motion
There was no part of my body that didn't feel the beat
It was easy to tell
My shadow wasn't going to be Left behind either
Mimicking every step, every move correctly without missing any
I danced
Jumped
My feet were covered in dust
I Swayed hands
I Shook hips
I Shook the head
Sweat all over dripping from my forehead down my chin, wetting the back of my shirt
Forgetting that on that day I was having my last dance
I was to be executed at the sound of the drum beat
I was dancing to the beat of the drum my friends, my peers were hung
I danced Until it was my turn!
