Lakshya

Lakshya

As I crossed the threshold into the temple

I moved with a bowed head and folded hands,

I looked around the crowded hall, feeling humble,

And the soft peace as resting in heavenly white sands.

A thought flashed through my skeptical mind

Is God real or one illusion in our Brave New World(i)?

A symbol to believe in to calm the soul, man’s find

Such as Soma(ii) causing the mind to be swirled?

As I marveled at the majestic architecture with eyes starry,

I felt far away from the moribund city life,

Reminded of the Monk Who Sold his Ferrari(iii),

Realizing how I panicked at the thought of going back to the strife.

Inscribed on the wall, “God’s will is for mankind to strive”

Told me eventually I have to return to my life.

(i) A book by Aldous Huxley published in 1932
