In The Depths, Unseen
In The Depths, Unseen
Deep in the ocean there lives a fish
It has silver scales and I call it ‘my wish’
In darkness it flits like a flash of light
Keeping my murky ocean bright
No one has seen it and no one knows
For in such deep waters no oarsman rows
Among the colored corals it lives and plays
Joyfully living its numbered days
I know in my hands I never shall hold
Or its glorious beauty my eyes behold
And like all things born are sure to die
One day ‘my wish’ too, shall lifeless lie
But still, as long as I know it somewhere lives
An undying hope to me it gives.
