If Only

A lonely night and my sighs

I think of times that have been

Of fun and laughter and tears and goodbyes

And all that had to be said and seen.

The pain tore through my heart

All I could do was howl and cry

Faces flashed before my eyes

Tears rolled down in waves and throat went dry.

How I'd longed to hold someone

To love, cherish and feel

But dreams go poof in a second

And life goes spiralling in a downward reel.

There's no escaping sadness 

No panacea for a broken heart

No reassurance for things lost

Just a cursed fresh start.
