HUNGER: A POEM

BY SANJAY YADAV

While I was walking along the road,
I saw a family
Working hard upon the footpath.
They seemed tired,
But they continued working
To survive their difficult lives.

I sat there for a few moments
And watched them carefully.
The family worked day and night,
Struggling to earn money
For their daily needs.

Then I went near the family
And asked about their situation.
They told me that they often lived
Without enough food,
Yet they continued working
Because they needed money to survive.

In this family, I observed
That the father was no longer alive.
The mother worked in different places,
While the children worked
Upon the footpath.

Even after working so hard,
They still struggled
For money, food,
And even clean drinking water.

I left that place,
But their situation remained
Within my thoughts.

During the night,
I returned to the same place.
I saw the family sleeping
Without food in their stomachs.

Their struggle was even greater
Because they had no proper shelter
To protect their bodies
From the cold winter.

I could not control my emotions.
I bought them some food,
Water, and warm clothes.

When they woke up
And ate the food,
I watched everything
With a deeply emotional heart.

After eating,
They lay down and slept
With happiness upon their faces.

At that moment,
I understood something important:

There are many poor people
Who live their lives
Without enough food or water,
Struggling every day
Simply to survive.

I felt happy
That I could help this family
During such a difficult moment.

Their happiness
Brought happiness to my own face.

Hunger is not only
The absence of food;
It is a struggle for life,
A struggle for dignity,
And a struggle for hope.

May humanity never disappear
From the hearts of people.

May we see those who suffer,
May we hear their silent cries,
And may we help them
When they need us most.

For a hungry person,
A little food can become hope,
A little water can become life,
And a little kindness
Can become a reason to smile.
