Holi Is The Way
Holi Is The Way
I remember watching the clock
Tick tock! Tick tock!
And I memorised the security code of the lock.
Tack tack tack tack tack...
Unlocked.
Click... Locked
I locked my door,
Took a breath, felt the throat sore.
What a bore!
Who gets sicks on such a festive day, you boar!
I mean i was such a bore!
I locked myself and my happiness behind a door!
Tring tring!
I heard the piercing sound of the phone ring.
Triiing triiing
As I moved faster to the phone and nearing
The sound was getting horrid "triiing triiing"
"Hello" who is calling?
For a moment, time froze.
I sniffed sniffed to inhale and tried to sooth my runny nose.
To process the excitement that gave me ecstatic dose!
Bunty, Bilal, Bhavia, Bosle, and Bose
Were expecting me in on the coloured floors
Ignoring my illness, uneasiness and flaws.
Festivities in my community
Knew no barriers, no racism and no disparity
My friend and I attended the same university
Belonged to different regions and ethnicity
Yet we all celebrated Holi as we celebrate Equality.
I also have a physical disability...
Yet they waited and wanted to play
To transform moroseness, dull and grey
To colourful, sprightly and gay
The worth-to-live vivacious day!
So I hushed up my doubts and complex to make my way
Through the doorway, holi made my day!
