I want it to be grey.

Grey because it's not fair,

That I stick out like a sore thumb,

Among your soothing hues.

And it's not like it's the light that I want to be,

But you're the one refusing to be.

I want it to be grey,

Grey because my thousand shades,

Cannot seem to meet yours,

And I'm stuck in an endless circle of defining that very circle

Until we realise, oh god we're parallel.

I want it to be grey.

Grey because my mind functions better in absence of contrast and conflict,

Oh don't look as if you prefer the alarmed and blind,

or the closed and unseeing mind that wraps around our periodic days.

I want it to be grey.

Grey because I don't want to have to choose or decide or analyse,

Grey because I can lie, but I still stare at freedom flowing and spend my time seeing-

Seeing the truth, beauty, and peace that runs from your black and my white

and hides in our grey.

I want it to be grey.

Grey because I can no longer be your white.

I'm slipping,

Just catch on to me,

And let us chip out our greys.
