Fighting For Ukraine

Fighting For Ukraine

Russia (read Putin) is fighting for Ukraine

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy

Aka Zelensky is doing the same

Confused? They’re on opposite sides

Putin’s fighting to establish ownership

And authority; he's the aggressor

Zelensky is the current President

Of Ukraine: he's resisting

The situation’s more complicated

And multi-dimensional; for far more players

And more at stake than a country’s independence

One could think of it as a Litmus test for the world

What’s at stake? Yes, a country’s independence

How far will Putin go (or be allowed to go)

Politicians are discussing the unthinkable

Pondering the possibility/probability

Of a nuclear war. Decades of M.A.D.

Cast asunder, for the ego of a dictator

International diplomacy on a tightrope

Words become fraught with meaning

Everyone’s involved. From the smallest of nations

To the largest; everyone has something to lose

Forcing them to be oh-so careful in what they choose

The West is arming the Ukrainians to the tune of $billions

To what degree, this is a declaration of war, is debatable

In the meantime, it is not. How long will this support last?

The battle of democracy against authoritarianism

Can traditional imagery suffice? Do the good guys wear white?

Russia (read Putin) is fighting for Ukraine

He’s fighting for a lot more. His authority

Over a nation, which he feels entitled to expand

He’s fighting to retain his position in the power structure

Russia (read Putin) is fighting for Ukraine

Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy

Aka Zelensky is doing the same

They’re not doing it for TV ratings

That’s a by-product.

They’re in a deadly dance

There can only be one winner

Let’s hope we’re here to find out
