Dear Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

You sat with me in darkness when I couldn’t see the light.

You heard my screams when all they could hear was a whisper.

So this is a thank you to you for just being there.

I remember the day I cried on your shoulder.

You apologized and told me later,

“I do not know how to console crying people,

So that’s why I just let you be instead of saying anything.”

You didn’t know you being there was enough for me.

You patting my back time and again was enough for me.

You just listen to me cry was enough for me.

You were enough for me.

You are the breath of fresh air for me.

You were the shimmering light in the days of my darkness.

And I can’t thank you enough for just being there.

You complain,

“We don’t talk enough these days,

We small talk, college and friends.”

And I can’t tell you how much I miss you.

And how much I am thankful for you just being there.
