Chimp in a Cage

Once in the city zoo,

lived a little chimpanzee,

Locked inside a cage,

For the young and old to see!

He always felt bogged down,

by the mighty bars of the cage.

He wanted to venture beyond them,

As he came of age!

Night and day he would scamper,

To bring down what seemed like a wall,

That stopped him from being able to

See beyond it all!

One fine day he stepped,

On a crack in the wooden floor,

He managed to tear it FRapart,

What was actually a trap door!

He had now found his way

out of the mighty prison cell!

The vastness of what lay beyond,

Cast on him a spell!

What do I do? Where do I go?

He started to ask himself,

But could not find any answers,

That made him feel like hell!

Don’t worry, you are not alone,

said the parakeet next door!

I was once a free bird….

It is just a plain bore!

Then the chimp, for the first time,

Gave his life a thought.

And walked back into the cage,

And got himself locked!
