Episode 43 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the valiant efforts made by Jataayu, king of birds to stop Raavan from kidnapping Sita. Initially, Jataayu tried to reason with Raavan explaining to him that he was committing a foolish act which will not bring him any fame but will destroy his family and kingdom. Sensing that Raavan is in no mood to listen, Jataayu challenges Raavan to a fight knowing very well that the battle will be an unequal one given Jataayu’s advanced age. Raavan starts by shooting large number of arrows on the king of birds. Jataayu has only his claws and beak against the sophisticated weapons of Raavan. Nevertheless, Jataayu fights bravely killing the donkeys drawing Raavan’s chariot. Jataayu also kills his saarthi (chariot driver) as well his assistants and destroys his chariot. Finding himself under pressure, Raavan decides to make an escape taking along with him kidnapped Sita. Jataayu once again stops him and challenges him to fight like a warrior and not run away like a coward. Jataayu gets on Raavan’s back pulling out his hair and flesh. Raavan keeps Sita aside and continues the fight. Now, Raavan pulls out his sword and cuts off Jataayu’s wings and feet. Jataayu falls to the ground.  (Ref. Valmiki Ramayan is the original epic which narrates the story of Ram. It is a detailed work which describes Ram as a human being who faced all the difficulties of life. Ram of Valmikiy Ramayan faces dilemmas, discusses with his family and friends, accepts guidance from learned men and suffers hardships. He always takes the right decisions and follows the path of dharm. This series of conversations is intended to help the viewers understand the personality of Ram.
