Yuvraj’s Fight

Yuvraj couldn't believe his luck! 13 years of training had finally paid off! He was waiting for the 16:30 bus home when he received the call. He was handpicked by the general manager of the Monday night edition of the world wrestling entertainment, for the main event show. His days as an extra were at an end. Towering a good five inches over six feet, he easily was the strongest of the few who had applied for the job. 

When he had first expressed his desire to be an American Wrestler to his uncle, he found solidarity in him but not courage. His uncle too was a professional wrestler associated with a local Canadian faction. Gadowar or Gama as his ring name goes, was a giant of a man. With five feet ten and over a hundred kilograms, he was a formidable opponent you wouldn't want to face in the ring. 

"We are Indians Yuvi and this is an American sport. You are either a hero or nothing at all. There is no middle ground." 

"But chacha, you are doing great! People love you." Yuvraj had said to him years ago, eager to learn from a master. 

"Showing up in the ring every single night of the week with unbearable pain and hardly any fame or money is good? People cheer for me because I let their hero win. Because I am a tough guy who always loses to the hero." He had answered with clenched teeth. 

"But today he'll be proud!" Thought Yuvi. He has been selected by the only reigning wrestling show on the planet and whatever role he played here he was sure, he would be a success. Television had changed things. Now wrestling was not the traditional hero versus a villain narrative. Today, there were multiple facets to a character. "A bad guy could very well be a hero of he's tough enough" his professional coach Allen had said. 

He jerked out of the reverie and stepped inside the bus. There was just an old man in the queue and none after him. The bus slowed down and the two men entered. Yuvraj tottered behind the old man, craning his neck to look for an empty seat.
As soon as he entered, the old man turned around and as the bus gathered speed, shoved him out of it. Yuvraj tried to hold on to the rails but the old man had a mighty hand. He groped in mid air for something to hold with wide eyes and frantic hands but held only thin air. He fell on the road and before he could topple over a car hit Yuvraj and he was thrown ten feet into the air. He fell unconscious over the asphalt, bleeding and broken. The bus had zoomed ten feet away and people were clamouring around him. He closed his eyes.

The next he woke up, he remembered a fuzzy outline of the events. He recognized the old man as a fellow wrestler he had defeated in the selection tourney. He decided to not press charges. He had multiple fractures in his legs and had a bad knee injury. He struggled for fifteen days. His idea of an American dream never involved jealous rivals. For all knew, he could never wrestle again.

Just when he had given up the most desired of all human qualities, hope, his uncle Gamma presented him with Poulo Coleho's 'The Archer'. 

Yuvraj's desire to prove himself dominated his self-pity and ignorance and soon he was back on his feet. The doctors were amazed at his recovery and before the end of the year, Yuvraj was fit to go to the ring. 

He entered the tournament again the next year and defeated all twelve opponents, outperforming his previous record of nine wins. The general manager of WWE's talent scout himself a legendary wrestler with the ring name Hunter Hurst Helmlesly or HHH, challenge him for a game that was broadcasted live on American and Indian television.
Yuvraj won!
He took the ring name of Jinder Mahal and went on to win the championship and held it for a year, He awaits his return to the ring after a knee surgery.
