We Were Never Weak — We Were Taught to Stay Silent

Do you want to hear a bitter truth? It’s hard, but it’s real.
Listen.

In one home, two children were born – a boy and a girl.
The boy’s name was Shubham. He got everything he wished for, was educated, treated like a king. He was taught that he was the honor of the family, even the “God” of the house. No woman – not even his own mother – could speak loudly in front of him, just because he was a boy.

Then there was the girl, Kanchan.
From the moment she was born, her mother was taunted, “It would have been better if this child wasn’t born.” Kanchan was taught housework, respecting elders, and always keeping her head down in front of her father and uncles. The difference in the upbringing of Shubham and Kanchan was like night and day.

As Kanchan grew older, she was expected to be “understanding.” Even when her brother misbehaved, she had to tolerate it — because “that’s the rule.” She came first in her exams, while Shubham couldn’t even pass. But instead of appreciation, she was compared and insulted because of her brother’s failures.

Time passed. Kanchan was married off at a young age. In her husband’s home, she faced insults, abuse, and even physical violence from both her husband and mother-in-law. She was taught to “endure silently.” Soon, she gave birth to a daughter and named her Manikarnika — a beautiful name. But her in-laws didn’t want a girl. Still, Kanchan fought for her daughter and later gave birth to a son, Ashish.

Kanchan was exhausted with life’s cruelty but wanted one thing: to give her daughter a better future.

Meanwhile, her brother Shubham had become an alcoholic. One stormy night, when Kanchan visited her maternal home with her daughter, Shubham came home drunk. Kanchan was bathing, and behind her back, Shubham tried to force himself on little Manikarnika, who was only 8 years old. Hearing her daughter’s painful cries, Kanchan rushed out and saw the locked door. Inside, her brother was doing to her daughter what her own uncle had once done to her in childhood.

Kanchan couldn’t bear it. She broke the door open and hit her brother on the head with a pot, knocking him unconscious. When the family returned, they saw Shubham lying on the floor. Instead of asking the truth, they beat Kanchan mercilessly.

But this time, Kanchan had had enough. She decided she would no longer stay silent. She filed for divorce against her abusive husband and lodged a rape case against her own brother.

For the first time, she raised her voice and proved that women are not weak.
They are like Durga, who rise to destroy demons.
