Unforgettable

I was walking down the dark alley when I saw two shadows approaching. I wasn't supposed to be there. So I quickly hid behind a shady tree. They were talking in a hushed tone and stopped right in front of the tree I was hiding behind. I could hear them clearly- they were tensed. "I broke in quietly to steal her pearl necklace. and- and she should have been asleep. but she was awake. and came with a vase. crept up behind me. So I turned around. threatened her with the gun. She tried to fight me. and in the heat of the moment. I-I just shot her. but I swear it was a mistake." said one of the guys. " You are in deep trouble. huge mistake. mate. But I'll help you dump the bodyin the river. We need to cut her body. and take parts to the river in garbage bags everyday. " said the other.

I froze. I knew if they saw or heard me. I would die. I don't what made me do this. but I decided to follow them. I hid behind the trees. and lurked in the shadows. Suddenly. my phone rang. Unfortunately. the ringer was on. I cut the phone the moment it ringed for the first time. but they heard it. Within a fraction of a second. I switched off my phone. hid it under the fallen leaves and hid behind the bushes. Luckily. I was two blocks behind them at all times. so I had enough time to hide. They shouted "Who's there? Show yourself !" I was quiet for about two minutes and didn't move. till they started walking again

Suddenly. I started recognising the road. The two men stoopped right in front of a house - a house I knew. It was Lorraine's house! My best friend's house! My tears couldn't be held back anymoew. They opened the front door and I saw blood seeping under the cracks of the door. I called 9-1-1 and dropped down. Against a tree.

When I opened my eyes. I saw a blinding torch. NYPD was here. They were asking me. " Are you okay. ma'am? And two people came out with handcuffs. They had been arrested. Lorraine's body was being taken out. covered in a white sheet. A medic was standing next to me. and there were a group of neighbours circling around. I just couldn't believe what had happened. I was wrapped in misery. Since I couldn't help my best friend...
