A Plane Crash In The Alps

A Plane Crash In The Alps

Panic, anxiety, and stress settled inside the plane. Noises of children wailing, and concerned family members shouting, echoed through the plane. Our fate was in the pilot’s hands, as death awaited us. We were told to keep our heads down, and all our suitcases were thrown off-board to decrease the weight in the airplane. The disaster started when we entered the Alps, and one engine stopped working. We are midway through now, but we haven’t reach Mont Blanc yet, the highest peak in Europe and we didn’t think we would make it past there.

Suddenly, my oxygen mask stopped working. Few minutes of suffocation, and I think I was unconscious after that. When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t see anything. But, the cries had become louder. I looked left and right and it didn’t take me long before I saw the fire, the blood, and the dead bodies. Our plane had crashed. We didn’t make it out of the Alps. I had never felt worse, and I could hardly breathe. I somehow stood up and felt someone pulling at my shirt. I looked back, and saw a little girl crying, she said “Mommy’s not waking up! Help! Help her! Please!” her hands were covered in blood. I could not think right, and I ignored the girl. I did not understand what was going on when I heard a strained voice on the speaker, say “ladies, and gent-gentleman, given the current situation, we have to evacuate immediately. The pilots are worried we won’t last long inside the airplane. Plea-please make a line so we can evacuate quick-quickly.”

We made our way outside, it was freezing. The approximate temperature was -10 degree Celsius, and all of us were freezing. My heart ached, upon seeing how few of us made it out of the plane alive. But it was obvious, no help was going to get here, and we would all die of starvation or freezing.

24 hours had passed, and five people had already died of the cold, or by starvation. We all knew this would happen to us soon too. Some people who left to search for shrubs or any vegetation, so we could survive a few more hours, did not come back. Only about twenty of us were still here, freezing and starving. By now, I was too. It was then, when I realized, humans do anything to survive and something bad- my worst nightmare could take place any moment.

Nothing happened then, and a few more died. By now we were fifteen people, and none of us had eaten for 32 hours. It was then when it happened. Cannibalism had taken over. But surprisingly, I didn’t run away. I stayed there, waiting to be eaten. Because even if I tried running, how far away could I possibly go?
