The Unknown

The fear of Unknown is ‘When what you don’t know really can hurt you.’ She perhaps experienced the same on the night of 2nd November. After a long spell of darkness, immobility and seclusion in a single place, she suddenly opened her eyes. The sudden pinch of the shining tube lights in the eyes was enough to startle her after months of being in complete darkness. Her brain could not fathom the sudden intensity of the dim, stale light coming out of those old, uncleaned and old school tubes. The Unknown of Light made her uncomfortable.

She looked around in amusement and the rustic white and blue paint, rather a stained, old and pale white and a withering blue was enough to send someone back to sleep. The only other color in the room was perhaps red, Alas Red in the hospital is often not encouraging. The Unknown of the Colors made her pale.

While she was trying to come to terms with the atmosphere around, she could see a lot of Humans, something that she had not encountered for a long long time. Happy Faces looking at her, Many with tears of Joys for she has finally opened her eyes. Many wanting to talk to her, hold her hands, and perhaps even kiss her! She had a blank look. She could not recognize any of them. She failed to understand the various emotions surrounding her. She failed to acknowledge any of the souls around her. She failed to come to the terms of the real world. The Unknown of Emotions towards her failed her.

After a lot of confusion, chaos and crowd around, she was finally taken to a different room. A room sans any human soul. Away from the insanity, she lay quiet on her bed, staring blankly at the fan above. Wondering what had just transpired, her brain perhaps exhausted. She had no idea of where she was, who these people were, why was she here, how did she come here and above all – Who she is??? The Unknown of not knowing haunted her.

The toll of the chaos and the unfound sudden circumstances exhausted her. In the calm of being alone and aloof from the new world, she went off to sleep. Sleep or rather closed eyes had been her comfort zone for a while. The calmness on her face and the pure peace oozing from her sleeping posture meant she was back into her world – her Known world. The not knowing of Unknown solaced her.

A husky male voice alarmed her. She opened her eyes slowly to the sight of an unknown man. A man in his thirties smiling at her. The man with tears of joy seemingly happy at the sight of her. She just kept staring. She wanted to desperately understand the situation but her condition would not let that happen. The man was frantically calling people and updating about her and her health. He looked overjoyed and time and again glanced at her with euphoria. She just had a quizzed look. The Unknown of Enthusiasm puzzled her.

The Man soon left amidst making numerous calls. She was once again all to herself. She could not get up or perhaps she did not even try to do so. She lay on her bed staring at the fan and could hear a few voices from outside. Where these ecstatic voices for her? Where all these people happy for her? or because of her? What did she do? Above all Who is she? The confusion was all over her face. The confusion was overwhelming. She just let out a huge cry!!! – The Unknown of her Inability frustrated her.

The past hour of Unknown made her go off to sleep again. This time around there was no one around to disturb her. She slept peacefully for the entire night. It was early morning with the sun’ rays hitting her eyes amidst the curtains. She woke up with a straight face soon changing it to her usual confusing one. Alarmed by the presence of another human in the room, she tried to turn her face in the direction. It was a lady in her thirties smiling at her. The lady kept calling her softly from her own bed towards her direction. The lady looked familiar. Or perhaps her voice, or her smell or her aura!!! She looked startled. The Unknown of familiarity awakened her.

Suddenly, a nurse entered the room. She looked at her and smiled. She gave a straight face in response. The Nurse started doing her chores and after a while came and suddenly lifted her. She placed her next to the familiar lady. The Lady softly hugged her and kissed her on her forehead. “Oye!! What are you staring at?? I am your Mother!!!” said the Lady while kissing her again. It was Feeding time and the new born baby and her Mother started the Life long journey on a that very note. This time being face to face and not being a single body!! The Unknown of the World can only be defeated by a Mother’s Love!!!
