The Rush To Look Old
The Rush To Look Old
Seeing an Uncle rant it out against those who do not offer a seat to the needy, I thought of presenting a thought from the other side.
Delhi Metro is one place where people don’t mind being branded as oldies only for the sake of getting a seat.
Doors of Delhi Metro are actually a gateway to the lost city of ‘Oldlantis’ it seems. Anyone who enters here tends to look and act older then usually they are.
The saying ‘Buddha ho tera baap’ loses its sheen while traveling in ‘Oldlantis’. People actually prefer to look and act old.
Even the age-old saying that ladies tend to hide their age and would go to any extent to look younger doesn’t hold true in ‘Oldlantis’ anymore.
Ladies and gents line up, looking desperate, tired andold, in front of young guys and girls in the hope that they would take their eyes off their phones and look at them in pity and give them their seats.
Some even walk extra slow or limp as well to create that extra desperation for a seat. The same people somehow magically gain this youthful exuberance when they get out of ‘Oldlantis’ at stations to quickly rush towards th
e exit.
So, why am I sharing this?
Well, this shows us a lot about human nature, doesn’t it? So maybe we learn a thing or two from this behavior:
1. Theatrics go a long way in creating a deeper impact. Use it in presentations, training's and sales pitch. Theatrics make it more lively and interesting.
2. Embarrassment and discomfort are just a state of mind. What can be embarrassing for us (sharing real age) can give us comfort when we choose to do so (acting older than your age to get a seat).
3. It shows that the only thing that can really embarrass us is our own mindset. So, if the fear of getting embarrassed is stopping you from doing something then do try traveling in ‘Oldlantis’, oops in Delhi Metro once a while and observe these 'Oldlantians' in action.
4. It shows that humans can find their way out of any situation but only if you want to, else we can choose to be stand lost forever.
5. It means that fake it till you make it. Which in this case means fake it till you actually get old. Pun intended here.
PS: Not meant for those who genuinely need support.
