The First Father's Day

When I was growing up, I didn't have a single memory of my dad scolding me. I only remember how he loved and protected me. He taught me to fight, he taught me to be fearless. I used to stay up all night due to nightmares. My dad taught me where there is faith, there is no space for doubt.

I am a mother now. Yet I am proud to say that my daughter has a stronger bond with her father than with me. Despite me being a housewife, my husband works from home so he can spend more time with our little girl. He massages and bathes her on weekends. He is awake all night most days to give her company till she falls asleep. When she is cranky he holds her in his arms, singing melodious songs to calm her although his shoulders are sore. The only person who can make her laugh is her daddy. My husband lost his father when I was 5 months pregnant yet he smiled for me so our baby would remain healthy. Even before she was born he knew it was going to be a girl. Everyone said we would have a son but my husband instinctively knew it was a girl.

He was there by my side when I delivered our baby girl. He was the one who changed her diaper when she did her first poop. He swaddled her at night so she could sleep tight. Even today he barely sleeps all night so he can play with her as she wakes up at 4 am. I am so grateful to God that he gave my daughter a father who loves her more than any mother can. This father's day I know my husband will feel upset and happy at the same time. He will be happy as he holds his little princess in his arms yet his eyes will be moist as he reminisces the loss of his father. His father was his best friend and he misses him a lot. As a tear rolls down from his eyes while thinking about his dad who passed away last year, he makes funny faces to make our daughter smile. He hides his tears for our happiness.

There are many amazing dads in this world including my dad. But my husband is the best daddy that any little girl could dream of having. This is the reason that my daughter's first love is her dad.
