The Cursed Moon

The Cursed Moon

I dutifully sparkle the night sky,

I lighten the paths of passers-by,

I caper with the glowing stars,

On the ebony stage spread afar.

The ebb and flow of earth's waters,

Tap their feet at my shutters.

Waxing and Waning are my attires,

Fully Silver and then Invisible, Is it a satire?

Rihanna, a fairy-like toddler, kept humming to herself, the lullaby which her mother used to sing to her. She couldn't sleep, not even close her eyes. At the juncture she tried doing so, that awful night replayed in front of her teary eyes.

It was a fateful night when her mentally challenged mother decided to jump over a cliff, only to fetch the Moon for Rihanna. From that day, Rihanna developed abhorrence for the Moon, for she firmly believed that it was the Moon, who snatched her mother away. She cursed the Moon to her heart's content and wanted it to be erased from the sky forever.

One day, the Goddess of Dreams, the one who has the potency to transform our dreams into reality, happened to visit this little girl. Without losing a moment, Rihaana asked her to erase the Mighty Moon. Now, the Goddess of Dreams was perplexed. Neither could she grant her that wish nor could she leave that place without fulfilling her wish.

Then came the "Fireflies at 3 a.m."! They promised that for every month, one single day, the Moon will not be there on the face of the night sky and the Fireflies would allow her mother to descend from Heaven on that day. Rihanna's joy knew no bounds. She hugged the Goddess and bowed before the Fireflies. She asked, " I can't see the Moon tonight. Could you please bring my mother ?" The Fireflies flew higher and higher, till Rihaana lost sight of them. She slept in the lap of the Goddess.

Lo and Behold! Her mother was right there when she opened her eyes. She was singing the same song for Rihaana and the Fireflies kept swirling around them, reminding them that they'll be taking her mother back at the strike of dawn. But, even God fails to match a child's innocence. Rihaana didn't let her mother go at all. She wanted to accompany her.

Now, the Fireflies were between the devil and the deep sea! The Goddess of Dreams appeared and promised that she will be there for Rihaana for the rest of 29/30 days when her mother would be in heaven. Rihaana, being an extremely benevolent child, agreed to this proposition.

Hence, from that day onwards, the Moon undergoes a "No Moon" phase, after its Waning phase and just before the commencement of its Waxing phase!
