The Beautiful Soul

Priya, a single mom, divorced in her 30s, was feeling a bit out of the picture today. Fear ruled her mind. She was scared of the future. She was worried about how she would possibly take care of her three-year-old baby. She was unprepared for the challenge life was throwing at her each day.

Each day felt long, tiring and lonely for her. She sat on the floor and cried for hours. It was 11 in the morning on a Wednesday. She already had so much in her hand: get a doctor's appointment, pick up her daughter from school, and arrange a birthday party over the weekend—pack for the Bangalore trip. She lived with her Father and two maids. She did not have a very loving relationship with her Father. She hated him for not being supportive of her in the early days of her career. She loved him just for bringing her into this world. She tried hard to make peace with this fact. Sometimes she could manage, and other times she just could not.

Despite her complex life, Priya was a very talented and beautiful soul. She was kind to people who were poor or from a lower background. She had sharp features, a fantastic voice, and deep relationships with her friends. She gave terrific facial expressions while dancing. She was a good cook, great writer, travel enthusiast and fashionista. No wonder her ex-husband chased her for three years before marrying her.

Her marriage was primarily based in the United States of America, where she was on an H-4 visa. Her enthusiasm to keep learning and exploring the world never faded despite her frequent quarrels with her husband and not having a significant relationship with her Father.

She played different characters of Indian Aunties on an Indian Radio Station, wrote ads, She gave voiceovers to varying clients on Radio. She did PR and handled logistics for a documentary film festival. She lived a colourful life by exploring new opportunities and travelling to different places in the United States with her husband.

Her argument with her husband was the main reason behind this. She wanted her husband to pamper her, compliment her, dance with her, sing with her, and cook with her. Just be hers and forget the world. They had some sweet memories, like moving from California to Seattle and decorating the house together while living in Seattle. She was hosting barbeque parties.

. The love that they had for each other was very short-lived. Priya wanted to be heard, loved and accepted for who she was. She wanted her husband to take her weirdness, her craziness. Was it too much to ask for?

The fights continued even after the birth of their daughter Pankti. She could not take it anymore, so she left him with a heavy heart. She returned to India and decided to stay with her Father.

She  had to move on and be the beautiful soul she is for her daughter Pankti. Her only hope in life.
