The Accident

I sprinted down the staircase and ran across the parking toward my scooty. I frantically tried to kick start it to life. No, it won’t start. It simply refused to understand my urgency. I ran outside my office looking for a cab. I had received a call a few minutes back from Hope hospitals.

“Your husband got into an accident. He was in a very critical condition when he reached our hospital. We had to operate him without getting your consent. Can you please come down here immediately ?”

Multiple cabs sailed passed me but none of them stopped. I literally blocked one cab that was not intending to stop. Unlike my scooty, the cab driver understood my condition on seeing my face and let me in. “He will survive, right ?”, I had asked the doctor on that life-changing call. “Please come here. You will know”, he replied without any emotion.

I urged the cab driver to go a little faster and leaned back on my seat. I could not stop thinking about the first time I saw Arjun. That was almost 10 years ago. It was the first day of my school. It was not love at first sight. Arjun didn’t even register in my mind when I saw him for the first time. But slowly I started noticing the boy sitting on the last bench. He started to look cute to me. Then he appeared handsome. Within no time, Arjun was a stunning prince born on the earth for me.

I started talking to Arjun just for his looks. I fell in love when I came to know that he also liked me. Actually, I did not know what was love. Arjun taught me how to love. He would care only about me and ignore the rest of the world. I too started ignoring anything that is not my Arjun.

Google maps showed me that I would reach the hospital in 15 minutes. My mind wandered back to the doctor’s call. “Please doctor, please tell me. Will my husband survive ?”. “Come down here” he had cut the call. “15 minutes was too much time to wait to know whether I can live with my Arjun or not”

When the cab finally reached the hospital, I threw the money at the cab driver and rushed into the hospital, when he reached near the gates. The receptionist directed me to the third floor. Doctors were standing outside the emergency room. That means operation had finished. I ran to them.

The chief doctor held my hand and slowly told me ”Sorry, We were not able to save your husband. Pratap is dead." I moved away from him and called my Arjun ”Darling, I am all yours now”.
