Silence Says Something
Silence Says Something
It was a scary and rainy night; someone was crying aloud. A girl made her own presence after coming out of her mother’s womb. Her big eyes, small nose with curved chin and fluffy cheeks were adding more effects to her charm and innocence. She said ‘Aashi Acharya(smile)’, who took her in this world. Parvati Acharya, the baby’s mother who was the only graduated lady in that village. Aadyot Acharya, her husband who was not as much educated as she was but he was elected as the head of village council ‘Patparganj in Kolkata’. Now here comes the introduction of another family; Aarul Banarjee, best friend of Aadyot since childhood. Saon Banarjee(monsoon) ‘, Aarul’s only son who was two years older than the new born baby girl. He was the only child of his mother and father. His mother died on the day he took birth due to some complications. He was growing up without the hand of his mother on his head. He had never seen his mother in real life but felt the essence of his mother in Parvarti acharya, Aashi’s mother. He used to call her his mommy instead of aunt. He got the whole attention and love from her mother before her arrival as his partner.
All villagers were celebrating and congratulating each other by distributing sweets. They respected Mr. Acharya’s family because he was the village council and his wife was the teacher who taught the poor children of the village free of cost. They were celebrating the birth as festival; Candles and diyas were lightened up all around. On her birth, he was gifted the name “Aashi” by them which meant smile. That night brought happiness in everyone’s life.
Saon started to live in Mr. Acharya's house as he got permission from his father. He used to sit beside Aashi and kept staring her all the time. He made her laugh through his actions when she cried and played with her fingers. She was growing up as a beautiful girl. She was doing all the things which the children of her age
did excluding uttering words. She kept on trying but failed every time. She was of three years and hadn’t uttered a word from her mouth. Mr. and Mrs. Acharya were eagerly waiting for her to speak the word “mama and papa” but they were highly disappointed with her situation.
One day, Mr. Acharya took her daughter to a well certified doctor. Doctor examined her and asked them to wait as her report would arrive in two days then only he would be able to say anything. Whole family as well as villagers were waiting for the report to arrive excluding Aashi as she was unaware of the things going around. After a long wait; the day arrived, Mr.Archarya along with Saon went to the clinic. Villagers along with Mrs. Acharya were waiting outside the hospital room to know the results. When he came outside, his face gestures were showing his disappointment. Saon was grown enough to understand his feelings that what would it feel if her daughter was unable to speak the word “papa”. This word seemed very simple but carried the weight of feelings.
Mr. Acharya sat down on the bench outside the clinic and started crying. Saon standing beside was consoling him. Mrs. Acharya came near and asked, “what happened inside?” With the droplet of tears in her bold eyes. He stood up, hugged her and said ‘don’t worry; our daughter will be fine, we would take her to a big hospital in Delhi; that doctor can’t decide if our daughter could speak or not.’ She wasn’t able to console herself; she ran towards her home to see her daughter.
She ran on the highway unaware of running high-speed trucks and cars.
Aadyot and Saon ran beside her to stop but she didn’t. As she was running on the main road, a truck didn’t bother if anyone was in between of the road. It hit her and moved on. In between the highway, one lady wearing a green sari and stained with blood all over was lying unconsciously...............
