He was looking upwards and running fast, chasing a bag full of Dollars, suspended in the midair, not knowing where from it came or where it was going. Suddenly he felt that his feet were off the ground and lo ! he could make out that he was falling off the edge of land into a sea or a precipice , he did not know what , because he woke up from his dream. Sudha and Saket were listening attentively to their friend Raghav's narration of his dream.
“We are in Mumbai, so where else would you have fallen other than into the Arabian sea! Dream safe my friend, you may be a good swimmer but swimming across a sea is altogether different proposition” Saket started pulling his friend’s leg.” How did you know there were only dollars and no other currency?” teased Sudha.
“You both stop your banter and join me in analyzing this dream. I strongly believe that dreams do have a meaning and a message to convey” said Raghav.
All three friends had completed their Masters degrees in engineering having taken up different specializations, with excellent grades and were sure to get good placements in campus interviews. Theirs was a very reputed institution and meritorious students got good placements and fat pay packets. This time around, every year the campus would be busy discussing who got highest package and converting dollars to rupees! Things have slowed down due to the COVID 19 pandemic and lock downs otherwise they were so close to making their dream a reality.
“ Why am I pursuing to take up job in the USA? Money is not the criteria not only for me but for you two as well. Our parents have made enough wealth during their life time and they don’t keep it a secret that it will be passed over to us, though we are not interested. We will eventually get our dream job and career and consequently wealth. Are we simply emulating our peers and want to prove that we are more successful? “said Raghav.
“Wealth has limited use beyond a point. Look at some of our seniors and friends in USA. They have created wealth for themselves there as well as in India but find themselves vulnerable sometimes, at critical times. Old parents are helpless ,in spite of their wealth, fending for themselves. Our friend Madhu could not travel to India when his father passed away due to COVID 19. His mother was alone for several days as she herself was infected. Murthy ,another of our friends , could not get married for about an year now due to lockdowns, travel bans etc.,” added Saket.
“Are we running away from some reality? Life may be very comfortable over there but we will be away from our family and our roots. Aren’t there sufficient opportunities here? Why do we choose to fulfill some one else’s dream in the USA? Is it because the risk is theirs and we remain secure?” said Sudha.
It was the right beginning. The friends were asking themselves some tough but correct questions. Their answers will show them the right direction.Surely, they have the courage to dream big for themselves and for India and eventually will succeed.
