My secret power...Connecting to people

Yesterday I got an email from a client who really seemed like she needed my help. When we spoke last night, it was as if we just connected, I knew where she was as I've been there. Trying to be a superwoman, doing it all and something gives and you blame yourself, you feel like a failure. Yes, we as women do this a lot and then beat ourselves up over it that much more.

We talked for a while not just about what services she needed but about everything as we connected. Ever since I can remember people have connected with me. When I used to own a hair salon, complete strangers would come in and tell me the most intimate details of their lives. Sometimes I was shocked, thinking you don't even know me? Wtf? But for some reason people always felt completely comfortable around me. My mother had that gift as well. When she worked in the diner on the late shift she would put a napkin around her neck like a priest and say okay now tell me your confessions. People just poured their guts out to her as well.1

I remember coming home about 3 years ago and telling my now ex boyfriend about my days. One day he said "This is your ministry, you are helping these people. Not just by organizing their homes but by listening, by being you, you transform their lives. You can relate, you have compassion, you really care"

I never thought about it like that, it was one of the sweetest things he's ever said to me and I have never forgotten about it.

This is my ministry, this is my passion and purpose, to transform people's lives. To connect, to say I've been there, you're not alone. To let them know not to be so hard on themselves, that it's okay not to be "perfect"

We are all human and we all make mistakes, we all fall and fail and that's okay. I try to connect with my audience when I write by being transparent, by telling it all the good, the bad and the ugly about my life. If you read my blog I say all the time I'm not perfect, I screw up all the time and you know what? That's okay as long as you're learning lessons to make yourself better for the next time.

So for now this is my ministry, this connection I have with people while helping them until I can reach them in other ways. I will keep doing it until I can do it full time through my writing, my classes and my speaking engagements.

So today my friends, what is your secret power? What do you do with the most ease? These are your gifts and you need to share them, you never know who's life you can change.
